Iceland Coast

Iceland being the most sparsely populated country in Europe has an average about three three people per square kilometer. Almost 80% of the country is uninhabited and mostly uninhabitable. The population being mainly concentrated in a narrow coastal belt, some valleys and the southwest corner of the country. In July 2006 Iceland's population totaled 304,334 people of which around 2/3'rds lived in the capital, Reykjavik, and surrounding areas. Iceland is a progressive modern European society and has a high standard of living and a along with high technology and education.

The Icelandic Association of New York is open to anyone who is might be interested in meeting Icelandic people and exploring the unique culture. The New York Icelandic Association represents people of many different backgrounds. Some of our members are Icelandic Americans that have roots going back to Iceland. Others are Icelanders who either permanently or temporarily reside here in New York working or studying while still other members are simply good friends of Iceland. Anyone interested is welcome to join us.
